Beef Pepper Rice

Beef Pepper Rice is a dish popularized by a fast food steakhouse named Pepper Lunch in Japan, and it famously serves steak or thinly sliced beef on a hot plate / skillet surrounding a mountain of rice topped with green onions, corn, savory soy sauce, and steak butter.   • Step 1

    In a bowl, mix together honey, light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, water, black pepper, ginger, and garlic.
    • 1 1/2 tbsp honey (30 g) (adjust sweetness to your taste)
    • 1 tbsp light soy sauce (15 g)
    • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce (15 g)
    • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (15 g)
    • 1 tbsp water (15 g)
    • 1/2 tsp black pepper, ground (1 g)
    • 1/2 tsp ginger, minced (2 g)
    • 4 cloves garlic, grated or minced (12 g)
  • Step 2

    Add oil to a pan over medium heat, then add the yellow onions. Sauté for about 2-3 minutes, or until they become soft and translucent.

  • Step 3

    Add the thinly sliced beef to the pan and sauté for about 1 minute, or until it is half cooked through.
    • 1/2 lb beef, thinly sliced (225 g)
  • Step 4

    Clear the center of the pan and add the rice to the middle. Top the rice with corn, green onions, butter, and the prepared sauce.
    • 2 cups white rice, cooked (300 g) (can substitute with any rice)
    • 1/4 cup sweet corn (30 g)
    • 2 stalks green onion, chopped (30 g)
    • 1 tbsp unsalted butter (14 g) (you can add an additional tbsp to your taste)
  • Step 5

    Toss the ingredients together until evenly combined. Sauté for another 1-2 minutes, or until the rice and beef have crisped to your liking. Serve and enjoy!
